Patterns of lights illuminate the midway at the Minnesota State fair when nightfall comes-and the crowds stay for an evening at the fairgrounds. Concessions like the Fly-O-Plane (photo above) create distinctive swirls and loops of light as they swing and turn in the sky. Unless the weather turns bad and it rains. When it does turn rainy, the fairgrounds streets clear, and the crowds thin out or disappear. When a heavy rain hit the fair Tuesday night, the concession stands were almost deserted as the folks headed for shelter. Photo taken September, 1959.
