Updated in 2022 to celebrate Steve Sack’s retirement from Star Tribune, “The First and Only Book of Sack 2.0” features 50 new cartoons covering 2017-2022.
This collection is just a sampling of Sack’s brilliant – and Pulitzer Prize-winning – work over the past 42 years. Sack has entertained, provoked and sometimes exasperated Star Tribune readers since he drew his first cartoon for the newspaper in 1981.
That’s the job of an editorial cartoonist, and Steve mastered the art form. The native Minnesotan won virtually every significant award during his career – including a Pulitzer Prize in 2013.
When Steve announced his retirement in April 2022, many readers suggested we update “The First and Only Book of Sack,” first published as part of the Star Tribune’s 150th anniversary in 2017.
The first edition, which won a Minnesota Book Award in 2018, became the most successful book the Star Tribune has published and it sold out earlier this year.
This “2.0” collection includes more cartoons and Steve’s thank-you note to readers as he steps away from daily newspaper work.
We hope you enjoy taking another look back at the extraordinary work of one of the best opinion journalists of his generation.
