Minnesota’s new Princess Kay of the Milky Way has more talents than there is time for them. Judy Merritt, 18, whose parents operate a dairy farm near Lakeville, Minn., graduated from Lakeville high school (A-minus average) in June after participating in such 4-H projects as clothing, food preparation and preservation, bread baking, junior leadership, health, safety and fire prevention, conservation, home assistance and poultry. In addition to these projects she enjoyed such sports as bowling, water skiing and swimming, and such hobbies as sewing and music (piano, French horn, church choir). Since being crowned the fourth Princess Kay at the 1957 Minnesota State fair she has had to put aside many of these activities – along with college plans – until the end of her one-year reign, during which she will make more than 400 public appearances in the state
