Description

The double winner was Charles Saari, exhibiting potatoes at the state fair for the first time.  Charles – A 17-Year-Old Embarrass, Minn., 4-H boy entered what he thought were his best potatoes in open class competition at the Minnesota State Fair. That put him up against the state’s leading professional potato growers but his Snow flakes variety took the championship. Then, his “second best” sample of 20 potatoes, won the top prize in 4-H judging. August 27, 1963
